R744, or carbon dioxide (CO2), is being used as a refrigerant in some electric vehicles and has also been used in some internal combustion engine vehicles, notably the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Volkswagen is actively transitioning to R744 for their MEB-platform electric vehicles, including models like the ID.3 and ID.4, as well as their Audi and Cupra EV models.

  Initially used R744 in the S-Class, but has since shifted away from it for internal combustion engine vehicles. 

• Volkswagen Group (Audi, Cupra):

  Uses R744 in MEB-platform electric vehicles, including the Audi A8, Audi Q4 etron, Cupra Born, and Tavascan, as well as various Volkswagen ID models (ID.3, ID.4, etc.). 

• Skoda Enyaq:

  Features R744 as a standard heat pump.
